One of a Kind Works in Porcelain by Marsha Silverman
The work on this site represents the two ongoing interests that I have had since I became a potter thirty-plus years ago. The first is working with wheel thrown forms and altering them by various means to look like seedpods, flowers, shells or any other natural form, real or imagined.
The second is an offshoot of the first. Over the years of making the pods I began carving the surfaces and fell in love with the effects. I love throwing simple elegant porcelain forms and then carving the surfaces into repeat patterns.
From time to time I go back to my beginnings and at the request of friends and family do a run of utilitarian pieces - tableware. I enjoy this part of potting enormously but not as a steady diet. This type of work may also show up on the site occasionally.
